The freestanding fitness center at the Ford Livonia Transmission Plant is equipped with the standard exercise equipment (bicycles, rowing machines, treadmills, stairmasters, etc.), an aerobics room, lockers, showers and toilet facilities. The center accommodates approximately 100 individuals and is open 15 hours a day, five days a week.
BEI provided all architectural and engineering services for the design, working drawings and construction documents. Special anti-micro carpeting and ceiling tiles control odor and bacteria. Boot storage units at the front door prevent oil from soiling the carpeting and ceramic tiles.
Each machine has earphone hook-ups on the handles allowing the exerciser to watch one of six televisions while working out. The aerobics room's three glass walls also have ballet bars.
Trained professionals help employees to develop a fitness plan. Information is stored in a computer that the employees can access on a daily basis.
