Engineering services for the 93,000 square foot two-level theater included: the "Festival Hall" auditorium which seats 750 people, a separate octagonal theater which accommodates 200 guests, lobby areas large enough to accommodate a full house during intermissions, office space, a building service equipment building, a rehearsal hall, a carpentry shop, a costume shop, and a main stage which is almost as large as the auditorium itself. The theater included the addition of a formal garden, a lake and extensive landscaping.
Structural engineering included reinforced concrete caisson, basement walls and site retaining walls; reinforced concrete slab and beam floor systems for levels 2, 3, 4 and 5; all roof level structural steel trusses, purlins and roof beam; auditorium and cantilevered balcony structural steel for the Stage House; and octagon theater roof and loft beam structural steel systems.
Included in the mechanical engineering aspects were hot water heater, fire protection pumps, plumbing systems, storm water drainage system, emergency electrical generator and air distribution equipment.
The electrical work for the ASF Theater included many design items, from the power supply system to such items as building feature floodlighting and entrance security. Noise control, effective selection of lighting fixtures, illumination sources, wall plates, and cabinet location and design were very important considerations.
